Bose QC35 doesn't appear in Bluetooth

We have many resources on what to do if a device shows up in Control Center but won't connect. But what about when the device - e.g. my Bose QC35 headphones - simply won't show up?

I found the answer in this Reddit thread from 2017. I can't credit the author because it says [deleted]. It has several thanks, and it worked for me on my 2020 Air with M1. https://www.reddit.com/r/bose/comments/6ac0vw/comment/dhdc26e/

  1. Forget every bluetooth connection on your Mac.
  2. Erase bluetooth list on your QC35 (slide the power button to the right and hold until the voice prompt [for me it was a beep] tells you that the list has been deleted)
  3. Switch off your Mac's bluetooth, switch off your QC35s.
  4. Switch on your Mac's bluetooth FIRST, then switch on your QC35.
  5. Pair them

You'll have to reconnect (re-pair) everything else that had been in your Bluetooth list.
