Still Images for Slideshow

I would like to create a slideshow. My still images are on 3:2 or 4:3 ratio. With one image showing at a time, how do I shrink (not crop) the image to have a black border (background) on all 4 sides of the image? Also, is there a guide tool that I can use for resizing all subsequent image to be of the same size? Thank you.

It appears more complicated to say it than to actually do it.

Herei's an Apple help link that gives step by step instructions on how to overlay and adjust the size and position

of a photo that is overlayed onto another photo or onto a background.

And here's another Apple help link that describes how to copy and paste the adjustments that you made, onto other photos.

Just a suggestion . . . you might find Keynote is better than iMovie for making slideshows.

Incidentally I use Final Cut Pro and in that I can enlarge 3:2 or 4:3 to fill a standard 18:9 frame without losing any significant detail in most cases.

The free version of DaVinci Resolve can also do everything that FCP can.

Here is a short tutorial about making slide shows with Keynote in case you are not familiar with the app.

There are plenty of other tutorials if you do a web search.

Many people who use professional editing apps prefer Keynote for creating movie slideshows as it can give you more control.

When you have finished you can export it as a normal 4K or 1080p etc. .mp4 or keep it as a Keynote presentation.

HI,

Place a black background into the lower timeline and drag out its right edge to extend its duration to that of the duration of the intended slide show. Then place your clips into the upper timeline. Use the overlay Picture in Picture feature to overlay each picture onto the black background. With the Picture in Picture controls you can adjust the size (i.e, shrink) the picture to the desired size. After adjusting the first picture, select it and do an Edit/Copy. Then select one, or a contiguous batch, of the unadjusted pictures and do Edit/Paste Adjustments. The adjusted size that you did for the first picture will be pasted into the other pictures. You may need to do all of the 4:3 pics first, and then do the 3:2 pics.
