Hi apple i want you to add the kurdish flag emoji

It’s a real shame that we still don’t have our region emoji, if the rules are : the country should exist or it should be a country, well there lots of flag in apple emoji that are not even region ,but we are a biggest region without a country, for example the white flag or lgbtq flag and more , they have their own flag emoji but we don’t even though they are not even a region, so it would make all of kurdish people happy just by adding a kurdistan flag emoji, it’s so simple , thanks.

For that, the general rule is whether it has an ISO-3166-1 code; adding everything which has only ISO-3166-2 codes would take up too much space, and no code points exist for subdivisions smaller than that. If still desired, click here and choose a form.

Other types of flag emojis are created by the Unicode Consortium, not Apple, and they no longer take requests for them.

There are other Apple Community threads on this subject - and I've seen one or two of them. They indicate that it's the Unicode Consortium that decides what emoji characters to add – and that the Unicode Consortium is not taking new applications.

Emoji flags Kurdistan - Apple Community

Here's the home page for the Unicode Consortium. There's a "Contact Us" link on the upper-left-hand side of that page, for whatever it is worth.

One thread mentioned a third-party font that has a Kurdistan flag symbol.

Ask the UN to add this, and it’ll then get added to ISO 3166-1 or ISO 3166-2, as appropriate.

Once listed at the UN, it’ll automatically be picked up by Unicode.

And then by Apple and other vendors.

Some background:

Apple and may other vendors implement the Unicode standard.

The Unicode standard includes Emojis.

The Unicode Emoji committee accepts proposals for new emojis.

However, proposals for flags are not being accepted by the Unicode committee.

Some background for this specific case:

Per Niel's and MrHoffman's notes, only countries officially recognized by the U.N. are designated as ISO-3166-1 entities. Subdivisions are ISO-3166-2.

Kurdistan is an unofficial area that drapes across several recognized countries. Regional flags were never considered, which is why there are no individual state flags for the 50 U.S. states. Only the United States flag is represented.

Kurdistan is a region that sprawls across Turkey, Syria, Iran and others. It is not a country unto itself.

Per the Unicode Consortium:

If the Emoji Subcommittee recommends the addition of a Catalonia flag emoji, then it looks like favoritism unless all the other subdivisions of Spain are added.

That's what you're asking. That a subdivision, that is not a separate country at all, be given leeway no one else is allowed.

A 16 bit font can hold up to 65,536 glyphs. If you counted every single municipality in the world (regions, cities, towns, etc.), there are roughly 4.3 million. You'd need 66 fonts just for flags to cover all of them.
