Safari Does Not Load Certain Web Sites

I'm running a MacBook Pro Mid 2015. Running macOS Monterey 12.7.2. Safari 17.2.1

Recently Safari on this Mac 'hangs' when trying to load a few of the web sites I frequently use. I down loaded a virus scanner and my mac is clean. I downloaded Firefox and can load the web sites easily. I can access these same sites on my husbands Mac (MacBook Pro 2016 - running macOS Monterey 12.6 Safari 16.0). I've done all the potential steps found in the forum (cleared cookies, cleared history, checked extensions, tried to open in a private window, etc.). Any suggestions are appreciated.

There are no viruses that affect macOS so just forget that idea.

The next step is to download and run EtreCheck, then post its report in a reply. Instructions: How to use the Add Text Feature When Posting Large Amounts of Text, i.e. an Etrecheck Report - Apple Community.

No obvious causes appear. Try the following. Create a new, temporary User Account: Add a user or group on Mac - Apple Support. Be sure to give it Administrator privileges. Give it an arbitrary, throwaway name. You can skip the steps for signing in to an Apple ID (choose "set up later").

Log in to that temporary Account and see if you experience the same problems with Safari. Please reply with your observations.

When you are finished troubleshooting you can delete that temporary Account: Delete a user or group on Mac - Apple Support

Thanks John - The thing is - the problem happened BEFORE I loaded the virus scanner. I downloaded it to see if my potential problem was a virus. I have removed it and the problem still exists. I also went through all the steps in the Apple support post you attached (with no success) before I posted for help on this forum.

Any other ideas?

Strangely enough - my MAC can now access the websites in question. I have not changed anything in the intervening days - software levels and products are the same as they were when I was having problems. IMHO it's either a case of the web sites updating their software or FM.

Hi John - We use Hughesnet at our cabin deep in the woods. But, the problem occurred at our main residence. Here we use FIOS fiber for internet. While I'd love to blame Hughesnet, in this case, they are blameless.

Please read If Safari doesn't open a page or work as expected on your Mac - Apple Support.

Rid your Mac of any and all "virus scanners". Rule 1 of Macs is don't install junk.

You're welcome Barbara. Is Hughesnet your ISP? Satellite Internet? I was curious if it may have been a factor but I'd imagine it would affect Firefox also.
