MBA M1 Power Button / Touch ID: screen flicker after waking up

I'm experiencing the following issue with my brand new MacBook Air M1 (8GB/256GB/Ventura 13.4):


When the MacBook goes turns off the screen and "goes to sleep" after a while, I touch the power button / Touch ID button (I do not press it), but the screen stays black.

After pressing the button, the screen flickers on, with the Lock Screen shown, and then turns off again. Pressing the button again shows my desktop immediately.


I feel like this is not intended behavior.


Additionally, this only happens if:


1) the screen has been off for some time (>1 or 2 mins). It works just fine if the screen has been off for a few seconds. In that case, I only need to touch the power button, not press it.


2) the lid has been closed and opened for the first time. The second or third time, the screen flickering doesn't happen, however, I still need to press the power button not just touch it.
