Cannot check wifi password on iPhone

Had a problem recently where I couldn’t see my connected WIFI’s password. My brother was able to see through his iPhone, but not me. Turns out problem was with the way I joined that wifi at the beginning. I hadn’t written the password to join wifi, instead it was shared by someone else through bluetooth share password option. That’s why I was never able to see the password, but after forgetting it and re-joining by manually typing the password, i could see it. Idea is that if you never knew the password (joined through someone else sharing), you do not have right to check it.

Yes, that can indeed be the case. When you join a Wi-Fi network on an iPhone by directly entering the password, iOS securely stores that password in its Keychain. This allows you to view the password later in your iPhone's settings.

However, if you join a network using the "Share Wi-Fi Password" feature, where someone with an iOS device nearby shares the password via Bluetooth, you don't manually enter the password. In such cases, the password isn't stored in your device's Keychain, which is why you can't view it later in your settings. The security measure is designed to protect the original owner's Wi-Fi password from being accessible to others who might have joined through the sharing feature.

Forgetting the network and manually re-entering the password is a common workaround to view and save the password for networks initially joined via password sharing. This ensures that your device securely stores the password for future reference.
