App Store won’t use Face ID

Brand new iPad Pro.

Already have an old iPad and an iPhone so set up new iPad using existing iPhone


Face ID is set up and in use for unlocking iPad but the App Store asks for my password every single time. I have already checked that the “iTunes & App Store” is selected under the Face ID bit in settings, I have logged out and back in, I have reset Face ID and I have even reset the whole iPad and started from scratch again.

why does it not let me use Face ID? I don’t want to have to put my password in every time

am on the verge of returning it as faulty

Hi, thanks for the response. That doesn’t make any difference unfortunately


its not even attempting to use Face ID so isn’t that it can’t see me properly or I’m not looking at the screen, it just goes direct to putting in a password every time.


if I try to get something from the App Store it pulls up a box where I have to click purchase, nd then after clicking that another box pops up asking for password. No attempt to use or mention of Face ID at all


I am totally stuck with this

I'm having the exact same issue. I've looked at every passcode, face ID, app store purchase settings and it still prompts me. This only started in the last few days. Nothing I do will allow the app store to use my face. Absolutely infuriating bc I had to find, reset, and log into all my accounts again with a password I never use.


It worked, then it just stopped... Why?

Thanks Groda, reassuring to know it’s not just me but so annoying, what is the point in having Face ID if I have to mess about with a stupidly long password every time. I now have a new iPad I’m not using as I find it so annoying, I’m still using my old one.

I thought it was just because my iPad was new and set up wrong or faulty but your message prompted me to check my iPhone - which has used Face ID for the App Store perfectly for the last 5 years - and that doesn’t allow it anymore either.

so your response has been extremely helpful in working out this is a general problem rather than user error on my part!
