Prevent Siri from making a phone call.

I use my iPhone for HomeKit use. There have been now 4 times in the past couple of months it has attempted to make a phone call instead of executing a HomeKit related command. I don't think any of the commands sounded anything like a command to call the contact that it thought I was asking for. To me an accidental call is the -worst- thing that could happen versus any other misinterpretation. I don't need the ability to initiate a call via Siri. I hope it can be done. I've lucked out that in a couple of cases the contact has multiple numbers so Siri had to ask first which number to use other times I got to the phone in time to hang up.

Yeah my Siri makes calls all the time I try to say Siri cancel call as fast as possible. It seems to get really confused if I speaking a different language in the same room with my phone. I mean it also changes me to different keyboards several times a day, French, English, Spanish in rotation. It never knows what’s going on.

I understand what you mean and I have had to create very distinct phrases to avoid ambiguity already.

It would be great if Apple provided a way to just not allow Siri to do certain class of actions I know others wouldn't care for it but I -know- I do not need Siri to have the ability to make a call so that would be the best thing for me now.

Accidental touches or movements when the screen is unlocked can indeed lead to unintended actions, including making calls. To minimize this risk:

  1. Set a shorter auto-lock duration for your screen. This can be found in Settings > Display & Brightness > Auto-Lock. A shorter auto-lock time will reduce the chances of accidental actions when the phone is left unlocked.
  2. Consider using a cover or case for your iPhone that covers the screen when not in use. This physical barrier can prevent accidental touches or movements from initiating actions.

Accessibility Settings

Go to Settings > Accessibility > Touch, then tap Haptic Touch or 3D & Haptic Touch. Choose the touch duration—Fast or Slow. On an iPhone with 3D Touch, you can also choose the pressure needed—Light, Medium, or Firm. Test your new settings on the image at the bottom of the screen.

It sounds like there might be some confusion in the voice commands given to Siri on your iPhone. Sometimes, Siri might misinterpret or mishear commands, especially if there's ambiguity in the language or phrasing used.

If Siri is mistakenly interpreting HomeKit commands as call commands, you can try being more specific and precise when giving voice commands related to HomeKit devices. For example, instead of saying something that might sound similar to a call command, try using clear and distinct phrases like "Turn on [specific device name]" or "Set the temperature to [desired temperature] in [room name]."
