Cannot sort by release date in App Store

For several weeks now, I’ve been unable to sort by release date in the App Store. Usually, I search for a game genre such as Room Escape Games. Then I Sort By Release date to see new additions to the store. Now when I do this, I only see old games. Sort by Popularity, or Rating etc seem to work, but not Release date. I’ve logged out of the store, force restarted my iPad and logged back in to no avail. I’m using an iPad Pro 11 on iPadOS 16.7.2. Any ideas how I can fix this?
