Why do Apple TV app movies, play at a maximum of 720p?

I am using Apple TV app on a computer with Windows 11. Although the movie I purchased has 1080p feature, it plays at maximum 720p. The strange thing is that if you right-click on the movie you purchased from the archive section and check its properties, you see that the movie that is 1080p is actually 720p.

All I want is to watch in 1080p. How can I do that?

Windows, Windows 6

Assuming that the Windows app has the same features as the Mac app:

  • Verify that the screen is at least 1920×1080, else you wouldn’t get 1080p from the app.
  • For online streaming: verify the streaming options in the app Preferences/Settings﹥Playback﹥Streaming Options﹥High Quality (Up to 4K). Also select your movie, then select the Video menu, then the Video Quality option, there change it to 1080p. Restart the app if needed. Then try again.
  • For downloads, verify the download options in the app Preferences/Settings﹥Playback﹥Download Options﹥High Quality (Up to 1080p). Then (delete and) re-download.
