Cannot connect to the internet

My iMac running OS Ventura will not connect to the internet. The blue bar loads a short way and then just stops. Mail works fine as does my phone, iPad and MacBook Pro. I was using a CyberGhost VPN, but I’ve deleted it on this machine. I’ve also deleted Adguard. I tried connecting with Safari and Firefox with the same result. I’ve even reinstalled the OS, but it’s exactly the same. Any ideas anyone?

Have you installed and run any "cleaning", "optimizing", "speed-up", anti-virus or VPN apps on your Ventura boot?


Give this a try: boot into Safe Mode according to How to use safe mode on your Mac and test to see if the problem persists. Reboot normally and test again.


NOTE 1: Safe Mode boot can take up to 3 - 5 minutes as it's doing the following; 

• Verifies your startup disk and attempts to repair directory issues, if needed

• Loads only required kernel extensions (prevents 3rd party kernel/extensions from loading)

• Prevents Startup Items and Login Items from opening automatically

• Disables user-installed fonts 

• Deletes font caches, kernel cache, and other system cache files


NOTE 2: if you have a wireless keyboard with rechargeable batteries connect it with its charging cable before booting into Safe Mode. This makes it act as a wired keyboard as will insure a successful boot into Safe Mode.

Hi yes it was that. I don’t know what changed it though, I have been using this internet connection in this machine for years and it always was my router address that was in the DNS. I used the computer 2 days ago and suddenly it wouldn’t connect. How the number got changed I do not know, but it was 10. something or other. I never thought to look there, thank you.
