I cannot upgrade to iOS 16 or 17. It says I have 15.8 but does not give me the option to update to the latest bersion

The iPhone 7 can only update as far as iOS 15.8. Why? The hardware in the iPhone 7 cannot meet the software requirements of iOS 16 or iOS 17. In simpler terms......the iPhone 7 is too old.
If you want to run iOS 16, you will need an iPhone 8 or higher.
If you want to run run iOS 16, you will need an iPhone XR or higher.
