Shared AirTags Missing After IOS 17.x Updates

My wife and I like sharing AirTags that we use. It is a very nice feature of iOS 17 and iPadOS 17. The problem is that these shared AirTags disappear whenever I update my iPhone with the latest security features. I updated my iPhone to 17.2.1 yesterday and they are gone.

It has happened with each update since 17.0

The AirTags are shared from an iPhone 11 to an iPhone 13. The 13 usually gets updated first.

Does anyone else have this problem?

The exact same thing happened to my iPhone 15 Pro. My wife is still on IOS 17.2 and the AirTags are showing and functional while they are missing on my iPhone. Help please.

Problem solved. I CAREFULLY followed the instructions in Support. I removed the battery from the AirTag and replaced it 5 times by pressing it down on the battery until I heard a chirp. The fifth chirp was said to be different than the first four but it was very hard for me to hear it. Then I replaced the stainless steel cover and ADDED the AirTag to the Find My app. Success! I did this exact procedure previously but it did not work. So repeat this if it fails the first time. This does work.

Update, today I noticed that AirTag sharing had stopped again. This time there were no updates to our devices.

I spent a bit of time with Apple support on this. The support manager wants me to wait until it happens again and call them. They did not want me to re-share the AirTags from my wife’s phone before calling support again.

I guess, I will need to see if they disappear after updating, my iPad, iPhone or iWatch. Or was it after her devices were updated.

the issue is a bit frustrating, sharing AirTags is a great feature.
