my son accidentally disabled his iphone by entering the password too many times. I am fine with restoring and resetting the iphone completely, but it has some photos on it that are irreplaceable. Is there any way to get the photos off of the phone?

Those sites are scams and they will happily take your money and you'll get nothing in return. Backups HAVE to happen before catastrophe strikes. You can restore the phone, but photos not backed up are gone.
unfortunately not. it was my old phone and i let my son use it and before I had the chance to download the photos, he disabled it. when i google how to get photos off of disabled iphone there are numerous sites that say you can download something and they can retrieve them for you. however, i am not tech savvy and i am afraid those sites may be scams.
Unfortunately, it is too late to save the data on the phone.
By chance, do you have a recent backup of the phone?
I would doubt they work. When the phone is disabled it thinks somebody was trying to get into it and steal data. I doubt Apple would make it so easy to retrieve items using a third party pap.
If your son was using iCloud to store and sync items, the photo will reappear after he signs in again and the sync service is turned on.
