iTUnes will not synch or backup - problem with MDCrashReporter.exe

iTunes Ver 12.13.1.3 and previous version 12.13.1.2 (?)

Two PC's: Windows 10 and Windows 11

Three iPhones all updated to IOS17.2: 15 Pro, 14 Pro and XS

After updating to IOS17.2 all three phones stick at step 2 when syncing.

Problem was isolated to MDCrashReporter.exe

Renamed this file to MDCrashReporter.exe-orig and all phones now sync, but Backup Now button does not backup phone and no backups are listed in the device list although there are backups on my PC and in the cloud.

Button is active but clicking it does not produce a backup. I can backup to the cloud from the phone interface, but not from iTunes.

iOS 17.2 broke iTunes sync. On Windows PC, it hangs at "Preparing To Sync". The culprit MDCrashReportTool (32 bit). MDCrashReportTool (32 bit) does not appear in Task Manager/iTunes UNTIL iTunes arrives at the Preparing To Sync step. And subsequent Sync requires repeating ending the process MDCrashReportTool (32 bit) each time until the Apple Programmer which broke it fixes it. 😠😠 credit appletrav on YouTube (@NoMathHere123) has the workaround for Windows PC here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HczFwxWHj2c

Thank you, this worked, but there were other steps that I followed first, on the advice on Apple support.

The expected: backup your PC; backup your Apple device(s); ensure current versions of Apple devices as well as PC. Other advice from Apple support: change the cable; use a different USB connection.

Then the unique to me:

1) in iTunes: Edit - Preferences - device; "reset sync history" (insufficient)

2) further down, "replace information on the iPad - calendars - next syn only" (worked for my tablet, but not newer phone), and then

3) END TASK for iTunes MD Crash Tool, as proposed here, when the program stalls, as seen on the Task Manager

SUCCESS!!!

Thank you, thank you.
