How to resolve the 'Add to Playlist' glitch on Apple Music on my MacBook Air

I noticed this right after the last MacOS update exactly as described above. I restarted Music, then cleared cache/restarted - no joy. I can create a "new" playlist with exactly a same same and it then shows up twice (a 2 different playlists), but only newly created playlists display in the add-to section.

Waiting for a fix Apple....

Just happened to me when I updated to Sonoma 14.2.1. When I try to add a song to a playlist (either by right clicking or through the menu option), I'm restricted to playlists created since the update (for some reason, there are two older playlists that are still options ... can't figure out why they are different from other older playlists). The older playlists are still listed on the left and, as the original poster indicated, I can drag songs into them. As Jeff notes, I can also duplicate them and they will then be visible in the "add to playlist" menu.

Me too. It is still possible to drag individual songs to a playlist but this is tedious compared with using right click or even the drop down menu which no longer function after the update. I hope Apple fixes this.

Same. Also having the dreaded "preparing to sync" issue, where the only solution is to manually kill the MDCrashReportTool process. Feels like Apple has completely neglected anyone who still manually syncs with an offline library for years now. If that ability ever goes away entirely, I'm so hosed. Really, I already hate that we're forced to do so using Apple Music. Just let me drag and drop to folders and I'll be happy, don't need the dev time or bloat associated with "sync"-ing. Anyway, rant over. I'm having this same issue lol.

As of Feb 10, 2024 it's still broken. The workaround I've been using is to drag the song onto the playlist you want to add it to, then move it into position.

Weirdly, on my MacBook Air, the Add to Playlist menu also shows a part of my playlist tree, with two branches opened, but the folders all greyed out and non-responsive.

The work around I use was mostly mentioned already but it solves the issue:

• Duplicate your play list. You'll get a new one called "<playlist name> copy". The new one will show up in "Add to Playlist".
• Delete the original (the one without the word "copy" in the title).
• Edit the new playlist and remove the word "copy" from the title.

Everything now works like it should for that playlist. If you've got a lot of playlists, you've got to do the same thing for each. Ug Apple :-(

Thanks for the work around. The biggest surprise is it’s not just my playlists that disappeared but also all the genre ones APPLE pre installed in the software! Ugh indeed Apple.
