Media no longer available in Messenger app on iPhone

As of yesterday afternoon I could no longer see any photos on my iPhone in messenger but i could see them on my ipad ….i updated the app and still can’t see them ….if i uninstall and reinstall the app will it result in me losing all previous messenger history and pics

This is what I did to resolve the issue.

Open the settings of the Messenger.
Scroll down until you see Photos & media.
Tap Photos & media.
Under the Camera setting, switch on Save photos and videos and under Links switch on Open in external browser.
Go back to your Messenger to see if photos are shown.
