Motion 5 will not open

Greetings.

I have been trying to open Motion5 with nothing but the spinning beach ball.

Updated system to 13.6.1

Download version 5.7

Gets hung up at the "Welcome... continue" dialog box.

Force quit

Deleted everything / package

Download again... same results.

Hopefully someone can help, or maybe point me in the direction to try download the previous version.

Thanks for any assistance.

Hi Chizzer

The most common reason for this that a plugin you have installed is preventing Motion from loading the browser on start up.

If you have recently updated Motion, this is one of those times that plugins that have not yet been optimised for the latest version may become unresponsive.

Can I ask about the kind of plugins you have installed?

Do you have any installed from

Fxfactory? - if so, use the the desktop app to deactivate plugins

Pixel Film Studios? - if so, move these installed templates to another location temporarily

Motion Array? - if so, move these installed templates to another location temporarily

Motion VFX? - if so, use the desktop installer to deactivate plugins..

BorisFX? - I'm not sure on this one - contact customer support to see how to deactivate plugins

Other template products from independent vendors you should be able to move to another location temporarily

Generally, one or more of your plugins may be preventing Motion from loading the browser on start up - and removing these templates from the installation location should help you isolate which one it is.

your templates are usually located in finder/movies/motion templates - here you will find the titles, effects, generators and transitions ..but, vendor by vendor - use the desktop app they provide if it is available to deactivate installed products.

Let's see if this helps at first.

Hey, hello there... thank you for the great reply, much appreciated.

I was receiving an error for mGlitch Motion VFX (which was used previously - but not updated for my new Apple silicon). They had some ugly process of using Terminal and Rosetta as a work around... (which I did not use) but Motion WAS loading under a warning dialog about that plugin needing to be updated.

Today it stopped loading.... so I took advantage to use the "uninstaller" and remove that plugin. Then updated to 13.6.1 and downloaded Motion 5.7

So far, M5 will not load.

Hi

Generally, when Motion and FCP are updated, this often results in various plugins and motion template based products becoming outdated. I suspect that aside from the mVFX product, you now have at least 1 other plugin that is not optimised for the latest version.

From the history of these kind of reports, it is very often the case that products from Pixel Film Studios are causing the issue, so if you have any of those installed - start by uninstalling those and then try.

If that doesn't solve the issue, keep removing all the other products until Motion can start without lag.

Let's eliminate the plugins as the cause before looking at other possible issues. I'm basing this advice on the long history of this issue appearing post updates and the cause typically being outdated plugins and motion template products.
