How do I change the default font for adding text in Markup on iPad?

With this latest iPad Pro update (17.1.2), I got a bunch of new (and welcome) changes for Markup. But it also stopped remembering the last (default) font, color, and size that I used, so it always defaults to this huge, ridiculous 24 point Helvetica font for every new instance of using text in Markup. So I either have to use my terrible handwriting to mark up these documents, or else every time I hit that "Add Text" button, I have to adjust all the font settings again and again It has made Markup unusable for me. I can't find anyway to set its default font or have it remember the last one used. Can someone help?
