Seeking printer that functions on OS Sonoma (14.1.2). Printer specs do not mention OS 14 compatibility usually. Any suggestions or experience with actual functioning printer on Sonoma? Thank you for any hints.

I'm personally fond of Epson printers and very happy with our latest Epson Eco-Tank printer.
First try resetting the iMac's Printing System, as per > Reset the printing system on your Mac to solve a problem - Apple Support
Then if that doesn't help, check and/or chat with HP for a solution.
FWIW the HP Officejet Pro 6950 model is on the list and so the 6958 should also work.
