time machine icon missing

.

MacBook Air M2

Can someone tell me how to get the Time Machine icon back on the top bar.

It used to be there so I could be able to order "back up now" and watch progress. But suddenly one day I noticed it was missing (I think it may possibly have been after an update).

I have checked the settings and the box is checked to show it.

I am wondering if it is because there is just no room for it?

MacBook Air, macOS 13.6

Hey.. I think I've found the solution to your problem as I was dealing with the same issue. Chances are your Built-In Display is using a larger size than your macbook's default settings. If you open system settings and type in "display" in the search bar - Click on 'Displays' and change your built-in screen's resolution back to default, it should solve your problem.

Hope this helps!

>System Settings>Control Center>Menu Bar> Time Machine , then select “Show in Menu Bar."

If in doubt use the search window there

if there is no room for it , make room and compare your results.

Reboot if necessary

I had already switched on "show time machine in menu bar". And previously it did show.

I have just gone through the safe mode turn on and still not showing TM in menu bar.

There are 8 other icons showing:- Help; blue tooth; battery charge symbol and % charged; wi-fi signal level bars; spotlight search; status(?) (black oblong with small white infill over white oblong with small black infill); SIRI; day/date/time.

There looks to be enough room. for the TM icon in gap between "help" and bluetooth.

External SSD not connected (it is left at home - I am in hospital after above knee amputation).

Between "Help" and Bluetooth icon there is a space.

I have been unable to find how you remove an icon or add one.

Very frustrated that have SSD plugged into MacBook and have clicked on The SSD on the desktop and selected "make a backup now" and the back up has been successful, but still no icon showing to enable to click on it to short cut to make back up.

Still using SanDisk 1TB.
