What’s the difference between Apple Cash and Apple Pay?

I seem to have lost $100 that I added to my Apple Pay account several months ago.. But since I did that, I never see Apple Pay as an option to choose when buying coins or chips or stars or whatever various games make you buy to keep playing their game. In settings on my iPad and iPhone,, it appears that Apple is using the terms Apple Cash and Apple Pay interchangeably. But then sometimes it seems like they are referencing two different things. I have added more money to my Apple Cash now, and have my debit card, one Visa card, and PayPal all set up. But when I try to make an in-app purchase, all I get is an “Oops….. my purchase was cancelled”. This is so frustrating. Any clues out there?

So for instance, I need to make a payment online but the money available to me is on two different debit cards if I loaded my Apple Cash card with the money from those two debits so I had it all in one place. Could I then use that Apple Cash card to make that payment online because I see it’s got card numbers like a debit card And this thing I’m trying to pay doesn’t necessarily say it accepts Apple Pay but it does let me enter in card numbers thank you in advance

Apple Cash is a prepaid Visa debit card. No physical card is issued. The virtual card in Apple Wallet allows online purchases wherever Visa cards are accepted, not just those that accept Apple Pay.

The complete set of account numbers were not visible until iOS 17.4 was released. When muguy originally answered the question, his answer was accurate at that time in 2023.

Apple Cash is a digital representation of actual cash

Apple Pay is the service that allows transactions between your card issuer and merchant. You can use Apple Cash wherever Apple Pay is accepted
