What I would do is open a translator app on another device and attempt to translate the Settings option to change the language settings.

Alternatively, open Settings and scroll down till you see the option that looks like the Setting app gears. Scroll down to the 5th section of the General Settings. The 3rd option in this section should be the Language and Region Settings. Click this and you should see the option to change it back to English.

Cheers.

It doesn't matter if you can't read the text.

Find the gear icon - that's Settings:

  • in Settings, look for the gear icon in this section (same icon) - that's General
  • on my iPod, Language & Region is tenth on the list. The list is divided into smaller groups:
    • two lines - (About / Software update)
    • two lines - (Airdrop / Handoff)
    • one line - (Accessibility)
    • two lines - (iPod Touch Storage / Background App Refresh)
    • four lines - (Date & Time / Keyboard / Language & Region / Dictionary)
    • (and more groups)

The first line in the Language & Region section is iPod Language. Simply tap that and choose any item on the menu. The blue text in the top right corner is the Done button and the iPod may take a minute or so to switch languages. You'll have to wait. If it's still in Chinese (or ends up in Russian), try a different item on the menu. Eventually you will see a familiar alphabet and then the text English will be recognisable and you can select that instead.

My advice, don't do that again.
