I restarted both iPhone and watch and left both charging overnight but nothing happened.
On watch OS 10.1 is installed.

It appears, I just had to do the watch reset by holding the Digital Crown and the side button at the same time and hold until you see the logo. Apple doesn't normally suggest the operation, but it is like a soft reset and does not erase anything. I also had to enter the passcode on the watch for the update to continue.
This is only while the watch is preparing. I would not do that if the watch had gotten to the second phase of the install where the Apple logo shows.

I contacted Apple Support and after a forced restart of the watch and the iPhone the SW update completed.
I have version 8 of the watch and iPhone 15(iOS 17.1.1), there is currently no power off option available for the watch. I will assume it has been locked out due to the update in progress.
Shutting the phone down does not appear to help and I cannot un-pair the watch.
The progress bar is a little more than halfway completed.
Hi I tried that but no luck. I am seriously stumped. I have the IPhone 15 Pro and Apple Watch Series 8. So frustrating.
The update of watchOS 10.1.1 is hanging in status preparing.
