Time Machine states Backup not complete

I am running Mac OS Sonoma. I have a WD 2TB external jd. I formatted it according to Apple instructions. My first backup was successful. When I logged in to my Mac pro this morning, I received the following message "Time Machine couldn’t complete the backup to “Time Machine”

“/Volumes/Macintosh HD/boot/x86_64SURamDisk.dmg” could not be backed up.

I don't get how it could back up the first day but not the second. How can I fix this? This has happened time and time again but never pursued it. Can anyone give me a corrective action?

Fixed!!! (for the moment, anyway)

I think I had the same problem. I have Ventura 13.6.4, and I got a slightly used "My Passport Ultra" 5TB from Amazon. I couldn't get 1st backup done. Had an error msg. Before returning the drive to Amazon and starting over, I chatted online with an excellent CS from Western Digital who looked up or consulted on three different errors, and, after erasing and reformatting, completed 1st backup. Yesterday, I got the same error message as you (see below). Today, unplugged the drive and plugged it back in. SUCCESS! (See below.)

I don't know what tomorrow will bring, but I'm okay with repeating if needed.
