Brand new Macbook pro entry model with M3 chip, won’t update to Sonoma. Message comes up saying no updates available, Ventura 17.5, your mac is up to date.
this is the 2nd machine today with the same issue. Have an appointment with Apple tomorrow, is it me ?

Apple treats "update" and "upgrades" differently on Macs. To upgrade to Sonoma see instructions in How to upgrade to macOS Sonoma - Apple Support
Try in Terminal,
softwareupdate -i -a --verbose
and then check in System Settings > General> Software Update.
Tried that but got error message “Update not found, the requested version of macos is not available”
Try,
softwareupdate --list
Also,
man softwareupdate
will give you everything you can do with that command.

Alright, You can always return your brand new MacBook to Apple.
This will be the second macbook today !
When you return it, get the refund and get your new MacBook from another store. The M3 Mac must come with Sonoma 14.1 by default.
