LaCie 1Big HDD Dock will not Mount

LaCie 1Big HDD Dock will not Mount

I have a LaCie 1Big HDD Dock that will not mount. It is not visible in Finder or the Disk Utility. It is visible connected to the USB port in System Report USB Device Tree.

What could possibly prevent this HDD mounting and can it be fixed?

I do not have that exact setup to test, however a Thunderbolt 3 to Thunderbolt 2 adapter and a Thunderbolt 2 cable have been know to work with some powered external drives.

Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C) to Thunderbolt 2 Adapter - Apple

Apple Thunderbolt Cable (2.0 m) - White - Apple

To be honest, I would spend the $100 on a regular external hard drives instead of on an expensive adapter and cable that might only be used for a shot time.

Also keep in mind that the Reader and USB port on the dock will not work, because Thunderbolt 2 does not support USB.

Thanks for the suggestion. This was my thought initially, but I've discovered the real problem.

Bought in anticipation of a forthcoming IT upgrade.

The 1Big HDD Dock requires either a Thunderbolt 3 or USB3.1 port to communicate through.

My "obsolete" 2013 Intel iMac has neither, so no communication is not possible.:-(

Will have to wait for Mini Mac M2 Christmas present to try it out or find a man that can!

As explained earlier, I already own LaCie the 1Big HDD Dock. I haver bought the Thunderbolt 2 to 3 adaptor, fitted it and with a Thunderbolt 3 cable it works!

It is essential that I had a means to Backup data and photos from a Thunderbolt 2 access that could be later used with a Thunderbolt 3 resource.

The HDD mounts and has been reformatted to Mac OS Extended (Journaled). I now have 4TB of HDD storage to backup Documents and Photos in prep for my new Mac Mini M2 this Christmas. Time Machine (on a separate drive) cannot be used to migrate my old Intel Mac to a new M2 Mac.

The USB port does work. Memory Sticks/Flash drives all mount and are accessible. The SD Card Reader also works. As for the CF Card I don't know nor do I care.

Thank you for your interest and assistance.

I think I'm good to go now as all things are fixed.

Glad to hear that it works on the adapter and TB cable.

Good work. Nice, sounds like it is going to be a Merry Christmas.

Yes it can, unless the new Mac mini's internal drive is too small for all of your data.

When you Migrate from Time Machine, only your User data is moved into the new macOS.

Your other USB devices will plug in and work with the Mac Mini, same as they do with 2013 iMac.

You're welcome.
