Photos don’t consistently save on camera roll
Sometimes I click photos and don’t see it saving on the camera roll. I have to restart my phone for it to start saving again. I’m on 17.1 on an iPhone 15 Pro Max.

I'm having the same issue with my new 15 Pro Max. Have talked to "senior advisors" at Apple support on the phone for 2 days, for over 3 hours total, doing several troubleshooting steps, along with their "Diagnostics" app on my phone, with nothing resolved and I was told she is turning over to engineering and she is the person assigned to my issue and she will contact me on her next working day that I am available, which turns out to be next Friday. So much for my being the photographer for our upcoming family Christmas get-together! GRRRR

I didn’t know this could be an issue. The last couple of days my phone has had an issue switching back and forth between lenses when using the camera app. This morning I took about 30 pictures over a span of 24 minutes. It was Christmas morning. So pics of my kids in front of the tree. They all seemed to take fine. No issues. And the the camera app started showing down instead of what I was pointing at and it turned black. So I restarted the app and it was still locked up. So I restarted my phone and it was back to normal. It was only later that I realized that none of my pictures before the restart actually saved. So I don’t have pics of my kids by the tree with the presents and I just feel so disappointed - now i can’t trust my phone to actually record memories. There was no indication while I was taking the pictures that anything was wrong. How would I have known that it wasn’t saving them?

I am not certain if this is the same as you mentioned in your OP. But, try this...

Same thing happened to me this week - the only picture my family had from our Disney trip of all of us and this happened to me too. Every picture I took from the whole day just isn’t there on the camera roll or in iCloud. Everything the day before and after is there like normal, synced to iCloud etc. but all the pictures from that one day didn’t save; I probably took pictures at least ten times for a total of 45-50 pictures and used my phone for the group photos since I have the new iPhone 15 pro and now we don’t even have them and I’m so upset and don’t trust my phone now. My google maps has also been going completely berserk and I don’t know if it’s the same issue or separate.
having the same issue!!
go to take a photo, screen snaps/makes the clicking sound, but the photo isn't in the library when i go look. have been having this issue for a year with Iphone X
I have same issue , i have 14 pro max on latest ios so far , the only way how im coping with it is taking pics in pro raw mode but this disables the live photo functionality. Deeply frustrated with it
I’m having this issue too – thought it was a one off when none of my New Year’s Eve photos saved, but it’s happened again this morning and so now I’m worrying. I take a lot of photos for work and not having trust that my phone will actually save them to the camera roll is a very big issue. Has anyone managed to sort this? Apple – this is not good enough at all.
I am having the same exact problem with my IPhone 14 on IOS 17.5.1. The camera opens and “clicks” when I press the button to take a picture, but the picture is not saved in my camera roll. I can use SnapChat to take a picture and save it, and it saves to my camera roll. I just can’t seem to figure out why my camera will not save pictures. I have plenty enough storage, I’ve restarted my phone several times, etc. Has anyone gotten any solutions??
My wife's iphone had the exactly same problem. It's brand new iphone 15 pro max bought 1 month ago.
It happened during important family gathering to celebrate my mother's 80 birthday and we believed that all pics were saved but after the gathering when my wife checked her phone to share the pics, there was no today's pic. I tired to take a pic but it's not saved and finally restart solved the problem. I was frustrated for the loss of all family pics and tried to contact apple but what they said is nothing they can do and please contact us when it happens again. I was unhappy how apple handles this situation. The pics were priceless as it might be the last moment when all family can gather.
I have an iPhone 15 Pro, 1TB; it has IOS 17.2.1. I have had this issue twice, both in Dec2023. I purchased the phone in September and didn’t have an issue until December. The photos appear to be taken, but when I check the camera roll/photo app, they are not there. The only fix I have found is to restart the phone. I hope Apple figures out a fix for this as it is very frustrating to restart the phone and not get the original photo I wanted. I have to quick open the SnapChat app to take a photo on there and save it.
Tried that but didn't. Thanks for the heads up though
This issue hasn’t been resolved. When I click photos I need to keep my fingers crossed they actually save.
Long story short, and several hours on the phone with Apple, all it took to get my issue resolved was doing another backup on my old phone, an erase and restore from that backup onto my new phone!
Hey your a genius this method worked for me! thank you soo much!
