Start Screen Saver when Inactive - Option is unavailable because it's controlled by a profile

OSX 13.4.1 - Macbook M1 max

I am trying to disable the lock screen on my personal computer, never owned by anyone else or admistrator by anyone else / business / person etc...

I have two Users setup on this computer, both have admistrative permissions. The initial (original user) I setup, the original admin; has a limitation where I cannot change the option value when trying to disable the "Start Screen Saver When inactive" option in the "Lock Screen" section of the System Prefs. The option is greyed out and says "This Option is unavailable because it's controlled by a profile.

The issue here is, there isn't any nor has there ever been, any profiles installed into my system. I have spent hours scouring the web trying to find people with the same issue but have yet to find anyone with the same issue, especially that has never had any profiles installed on their machine.

There doesn't seem to be a way to reset user permissions or profiles and the configuration terminal options for dealing with profiles seems to be a loss. When I run the command "profiles list", the terminal says there are NONE installed on this machine.

Again this is only affecting one of my admin users and I would like to fix this for this user so. Does anyone have any idea how this can be resolved?

Give this a try: boot into Safe Mode according to How to use safe mode on your Mac and test to see if the problem persists. Reboot normally and test again.

NOTE 1: Safe Mode boot can take up to 3 - 5 minutes as it's doing the following;

• Verifies your startup disk and attempts to repair directory issues, if needed

• Loads only required kernel extensions (prevents 3rd party kernel/extensions from loading)

• Prevents Startup Items and Login Items from opening automatically

• Disables user-installed fonts

• Deletes font caches, kernel cache, and other system cache files

NOTE 2: if you have a wireless keyboard with rechargeable batteries connect it with its charging cable before booting into Safe Mode. This makes it act as a wired keyboard as will insure a successful boot into Safe Mode.
