Can I use Walkie Talkie on a cruise without WiFi, Cellular, and on Airplane Mode?

"To use Walkie-Talkie, you and your friend both need Apple Watch Series 1 or later with watchOS 5.3 or later. You also both need to set up the FaceTime app on your iPhone with iOS 12.4 and be able to make and receive FaceTime audio calls."

And as stated in:

"You can use FaceTime over Wi-Fi1 or over cellular on supported iOS or iPadOS devices."

So the bottom line is that you need a Wi-Fi or cellular connection.

Walkie-Talkie is a Push-to-Talk FaceTime audio connection.

FaceTime generally needs to initially communicate with the Apple FaceTime servers to find the other user(s), and after that the connection is point-to-point between the devices.

Without an Internet connection, it is going to be difficult to make that initial user lookup and find out how to talk directly to them..

You need an Internet connection. That can be WiFi, or Cellular, or using the iPhone radios if your iPhone is nearby.

Walkie-Talkie is just a push-to-talk FaceTime Audio connection, and FaceTime just needs an Internet connection.

Did you try it? Does it work in the ship? Without the wifi n internet?

especially since my kids and I are already “friends” on our watches.

Can I specify wifi on the cruise ship? Don’t want to connect to cellular on cruise as it is wildly expensive.
