iPad 9th gen Lock Screen widgets won’t work
I just updated my 9th gen iPad to iOS 17.1 and even in the settings it tells me how to add Lock Screen widgets but it simply does nothing when I try to edit the Lock Screen

iPad Wallpaper can be set from WallPaper Settings and from the lock screen.
Change the wallpaper on iPad - Apple Support
Custom Wallpaper can only be edited or removed from the iPadOS 17 Lock Screen itself. To edit/delete the Wallpaper from the Lock Screen - while the iPad is at the unlocked Lock Screen - touch and hold to expose the Wallpaper selection page.
Ok first your reply says “Custom Wallpaper can only be edited or removed from the iPadOS 17 Lock Screen itself”.
so that’s not right since it can be edited from settings.
Now, it turns out that I was able to get it to customize from the Lock Screen. However it only works if you enter the passcode. Using Touch ID always opens the iPad and never gets to the customize screen.
Also, about 40% of the time a long press only gets a message on the screen that says “unlock to edit”, and not the customize screen or the unlock interface, but if you try again, you get a different prompt.
Turns out that I can edit the widgets but only through the wallpaper settings pane
