It seems that when using iOS 17.1, the music app will crash if a smart playlist is sorted by release date.
Any time after changing to that sort option the playlist becomes unusable. You cannot open that playlist or play the playlist without crashing the app. There is no way to change the sorting at this point either.

Apple support was able to help me with this. Just go to settings>media&purchases and just sign out then back in. Fixed the issue for me

Ugh. 84 GB of music will be removed when I sign out, taking hours to download again. Plus, I assume ALL of my playlist sorting will be lost since sorting doesn’t sync from my Mac. This is a terrible “solution.” I sure hope it’s fixed in the next update. For now, I can ask Siri to play a crashing playlist.
