Battery drain and overheating

Updated my watch 9 to WatchOS 10.1 last night. Watch is now overheating while charging and the battery drain is horrible. I went from 80% at 11am to 20% by 1pm. Diagnostics show that watch operating normally.

Hi there Hockeydemon,

Thanks for stopping by the Apple Support Communities.

There are certain circumstances under which it may be expected for your Apple Watch to increase in temperature. You can find out when those circumstances are, when it's not normal, and what to do when something out of the ordinary happens here: Keep Apple Watch within acceptable operating temperatures - Apple Support.

Additionally, your battery is considered a consumable part. That means that over time, with use, its overall performance is expected to decrease. The rate at which this occurs is wholly dependent upon your individual usage and charging patterns. To learn more please review iPhone Battery and Performance - Apple Support, which discusses how the battery performs, and what is expected behavior.

Should you continue to have concerns about the temperature and battery of your Apple Watch, we suggest contact Apple Support directly. They will have the tools and resources needed to further assist. You can do that here: Get Support.

Have a lovely day!
