Auto-eject CD after import function gone in Sonoma?

In Ventura and prior Mac OS, one could set up Music to import a CD when a CD was inserted, and then eject the CD automatically when the import was finished.

I'm re-ripping all my CDs. The import machine runs Sonoma. I've looked in Music>Settings>4 tabs, there's no option to eject a CD after import. In System Settings>CDs & DVDs, there are action options for insertion of CDs & DVDs, but no options for eject after import.

Is there an auto eject after CD import in Sonoma? Or did Apple remove it? System is a M2 Mac mini, Sonoma with all updates. Thanks for your help.

You can manually set the preference in Terminal:

defaults write com.apple.music cdInsertAction 3

Values you can use:

2 — import CD

3 — import CD and eject

4 — Play CD/Show CD

See the 'Choose what happens when you insert a CD' section in:

Import songs from CDs into Music on Mac - Apple Support

  1. In the Music app  on your Mac, choose Music > Settings, then click General.
  2. Click the “When a CD is inserted” pop-up menu, then choose the option:
  • Import CD and Eject: Music imports the CD, then ejects it. This is a good option if you plan to import a lot of CDs.

Hi ridgecritter,

Thank you for participating in the Apple Support Communities. We understand you'd like to be able to auto-eject a CD after import in macOS Sonoma. It sounds like the option was removed if you don't see the option on any of the available settings tabs. We recommend leaving feedback for Apple here: Product Feedback - Apple. This is the best way to make your voice heard.

Take care.

Mine is missing from AM Settings too. But I want to go back to manual eject. Can't. Sent bug report to Apple.

Auto eject is causing last few songs during rip to not be converted to ALAC because it ejects the CD too soon. But only happens about every 50 CDs. Happened recently to a shinny brand new one. So I suspect it might also be partly CD related. However, this premature ejection during a RIP is a bug that Apple needs to address ASAP. Bug report to Apple.
