external dvd drive keeps immediately ejecting cds

Recently found a cd full of photographs from my childhood, bought an external dvd drive to make it easier to send the photos to other family members but it keeps ejecting my cd. have tried troubleshooting a couple of different things and cleaning the cd but still nothing.

The quality of the CD and how they are stored can make a lot of difference on how long they last.

Anther factor is the format and software that was used to burn the CD.

Any idea if the picture CD was burned using an old PC or Mac?

Test the CD a different optical drive, PC and/or Mac.

Clean the CD, try a free recovery tool, take the CD to a professional data recovery service.
