I used to be able to control my Yamaha receiver and my Bose sound bar with my two Apple remotes. Now they no longer control the volume. I’m forced to use two remotes now. Apple did you mess something up with the latest iOS please fix it. This is annoying.
I had the same problem after an update. I went through the “Learn Remote” process again twice and it didn’t help.
I read that holding down the menu button (TV icon on my remote) and the volume down button for 10 seconds would do some kind of a reset.
After that I was able to control my sound bar again.

The symptoms seem to imply that some setting isn’t set anymore to bring the behavior that you were used to.
Please verify your settings on Apple TV regarding volume control of the TV or receiver.
If the issue persists, then please contact Apple Support or submit your comments to Apple so that fixes can be created.
