Homepod mini stops listening

A weird thing has started happening the last few days. When I say 'hey siri' i see the colour visuals on the homepod light up indicating it's listening, but almost immediately it goes blank and doesn't respond to my request.

I think this is when my iphone also hears my 'hey siri' as the siri visualisation briefly pops up on screen, but neither device responds.

Anyone else? Is there a way to set a preferred device perhaps, when multiple devices hear my request?

With the HomePod itself, we'd recommend going through the troubleshooting steps at If HomePod or HomePod mini isn't responding - Apple Support to make sure that it's connecting properly.

When it comes to Hey Siri itself with multiple devices, as explained at How Siri works with multiple devices - Apple Support, "HomePod responds to most Siri requests, even when other devices are nearby. To use Siri on a specific device, raise to wake that device or press the button to use Siri, then make your request." So the HomePod should be dominant when making this request.
