Space does not increase after Trash Empty. Why?

I recently moved 1 TB /- of data on my MacBook pro running Sonoma to Trash Bin ... then Emptied trash. The trash bin is not empty but my available space did not show the increase. How do a free that "Emptied" space up after Deleting trash?

Purgeable space is space that can be freed up by macOS.

Before space is reallocated can take a day or so back to empty space by the macOS.

A shutdown and restart again may expedite the process of reallocating the space to empty space.
