Unable to Installing VMware Fusion Player 13 on MacBook 13 M2

Dear Support Team,

I'm writing to report a problem I've encountered while attempting to install VMware Fusion Player 13 with a Personal Use License on my MacBook 13 M2.

Here's a description of the issue:

1. After double-clicking on the "VMware Fusion" icon.

2. I enter my MacBook password.

3. A pop-up appears with the message "Initializing VMware Fusion."

4. After a few seconds, the pop-up disappears, and the software doesn't install.

I've made multiple attempts to install it, and I also tried after restarting my laptop, but unfortunately, I haven't been able to successfully install the application.

My MacBook is running macOS Sonoma 14.

I downloaded the software from the official website

I would greatly appreciate your assistance in resolving this matter. Please let me know if you need any further information from my end.

Thank you for your prompt attention to this issue.

This fixed it for me:

1) open terminal

2) sudo rm -rf "~/Library/Preferences/VMware Fusion"

Might have been some other Fusion files in ~Library/Application Support/ that I also deleted, but the above was the one that finally got the installation to be able to complete.

Installing VMWare Fusion on a Silicon Mac:

VMWare Fusion software is incompatible with Silicon chips. Parallels has found a workaround, but VMWare Fusion is still in the midst of fixing this (and it's been years). So, I am using my Intel-based MacBook Pro until this is fixed).

VMware Fusion Player 13 supposedly supports Apple Silicon – so it may be a Sonoma issue, rather than an Apple Silicon one, per se.

https://kb.vmware.com/s/article/2088571 suggests that you need Fusion 13.5 for Sonoma support.

https://blogs.vmware.com/teamfusion/2023/10/fusion-13-5-is-live.html suggests that Fusion 13.5 came out on the 19th of October, three days after the OP (who appears to have a M2 MacBook Air running Sonoma) said that the installation had failed.

Google search for "vmware fusion 13 sonoma" brings up several hits suggesting that early versions of Fusion 13 didn't work with Sonoma.

Conclusion: OP may want to download the latest version of VMware Fusion Player (which will be 13.5 or better) and see if it works better than the previous one did.
