'"iTunes Library.itl" does not appear to be a valid library' when migrating iTunes library from Windows 10 to Music on MacOS Monterey.
A few months ago I switched from a Windows 10 PC to a MacBook Air running 12.7 Monterey. I have a decently sized iTunes library that I started on an old iMac, then moved to my PC, and now I want to move it to the MacBook. Unfortunately that hasn't gone too well for me.
The library is stored on an external HDD. The iTunes Library.itl file as well as the iTunes Library Extras and iTunes Library Genius.itdb files are located on the root of the hard drive, and the music files themselves are stored in a folder called "iTunes Media" on the hard drive.
When trying to import the library by opening Music while holding the option key and selecting "Choose Library...", I get the error, '"iTunes Library.itl" does not appear to be a valid library. Please choose a different library.'
It seems like Music doesn't even want to touch this file. No matter how I try to get it to open the library, it just won't do anything. I tried just double-clicking on the file, nothing. I tried copying the library off the HDD to the Music folder on the Mac, no dice. I even tried opening the new Music library in the Music folder in Finder (because the new libraries are actually folders, for some reason) and replacing the "Library.musicdb" file with the itl file. Again, nothing. It just deletes the library and creates a new one like nothing happened.
Yes, I know I could just import all the music files into the new library, but i have playlists and custom artwork and stuff I'd like to keep from the old iTunes library.
Any help is appreciated. I know this problem is pretty niche but I'm hoping someone out there has a solution.
Thanks!
