ics event changes not updating

When someone updates a meeting time and I am on the attendee list, I receive an ics file that should theoretically move the calendar event in Calendar to the new updated time. However this is not working in MacOS 13.5.2, the event remains at the old superseded time. This does create a lot of confusion, as I am not able to manually change the time of the event if someone else has originated it, and as the event often contains other crucial information. The update does seem to work if I open the ics update on my phone / iOS 17. This MacOS Calendar problem so far has occurred with event changes originating from both Microsoft exchange and Google calendars.

Hi jonasvs,

Thanks for posting in Apple Support Communities.

To address this behavior with your calendar not updating, remove the calendar and import it back to your Mac.

Export a calendar’s events

You can export an individual calendar’s events to a calendar (.ics) file. You can use this method to share a calendar’s events with other users, back up calendars in the On My Mac section of your calendar list, or import a calendar’s events to another calendar or device later.
1. In the Calendar app  on your Mac, click the calendar’s name in the calendar list.
2. If you don’t see the calendar list on the left, choose View > Show Calendar List.
3. Choose File > Export > Export.
4. Choose where to save it, then click Export.
5. The events can be exported to a calendar (.ics) file only.

Correct jonasvs,

Exporting it creates a backup of that calendar, so everything in there is saved as it is and then re-uploaded when it's imported back. It's a bit of an extra step, but what you can do prior to deletion is export it and then email that file to yourself. Then, on your Mac, create a new administrator account - Change Users & Groups settings on Mac - Apple Support.

Once that's done and you log into it, you can set up your mail in order to recover that file. Then, upload it to Calendar. This user is a separate environment from your normal user and calendar, so you can see how things import and test the behavior prior to taking further steps on your main account.

Cheers!
