IOS 17 Messed up my 2 iphones.

I have spent hours with Apple and ATT since the IOS 17 updates last week. I have a work iphone and a personal iphone. Ever since the updates I have a call to either phone show up as a recent on the other phone and any voicemails left are on both phones as well. It worked fine for years having two phones with one Apple id and I'm hoping you'll listen to myself and others and fix this.

One option for me is to go down to one phone with two numbers but then if I'm one line not even an emergency call on the other line would ring. There are other not goo things as well as I can't be talking with someone and use the internet like when I'm in the car and have no wi-fi.

The other option is to get separate Apple ids for each of my phones which essentially reduces one of the phones to a shell of a phone as I'd delete a lot of apple apps so as not to update something on them and not have it update on the other phone. There are a lot of drawbacks with this option as well.

Neither option is acceptable to me when things were working fine until this update.

PLEASE LISTEN TO US AND FIX THIS ASAP!! THANKS.

Debra

Report this to Apple

Do your Part: Provide Apple with feedback on this, letting them know about this issue.  Apple may not get back to you directly, but the more feedback they receive on this, the more they will know what is occurring, and what bug fixes to include in updates to come. Apple will know nothing of this occurrence, if you don’t report it to them.

  1. Go Here: Feedback - iPhone - Apple
  2. Select: "Bug Report" for the "Feedback Type"
  3. Comment: that this all began after installing an update. Include the URL of this thread
  4. Proceed from there as necessary

You are correct, what you describe is "working as designed" if you have one human, two devices on a single Apple ID.

The concept is that your messaging and other traffic will be mirrored to all your devices connected to the Apple ID, so you can continue (for example) a mail discussion on whichever device you have in your hand at the time. You can answer your calls on whichever device is most convenient.

There are other potential problems with having work and personal devices sharing your own personal apple ID. If for any reason you part company from your employer they may activate a remote wipe of your work device - but that will also wipe your personal device. If the employer decides to implement remote monitoring of activity they will see everything on both devices, including the email to a potential new employer...

Best advice remains to have the work device on its own dedicated Apple ID, which is only ever used for work functions. Personal and work should be separated by a virtual wall using different Apple IDs.

Thanks for your response.

Why did this just change- meaning I was able to keep voicemails etc. separate before the last ios update. I am the owner of my one person company so don't have to worry about them wiping my work phone. Are there no plans to fix whatever changed last week so things can go back to the way they were for me?

If I have to have 2 separate apple ids that will make a lot of apple apps unusable on my work phone. For example, a lot of people use their calendar across all devices but I've been told this won't be possible with 2 separate ids because if I make a calendar change on one phone it won't sync with the other phone. I've been told that any pre-installed apple app will not sync between the two phones once I get another apple id. This is not at all good for me.

I love apple products and will never switch but for my phones to all of a sudden start acting differently in major ways with no warning is frustrating. I spent at least 4 hours on the phone between Apple and ATT. I'm trying to hold out for a fix to restore how my 2 phones used to work. Is this never going to happen?

Thanks

Debra
