Text Curser disappears on iOS 17.0.3

Correcting texts using the cursor has become an issue since I upgraded to iOS 17.0.3. Sometimes I type a very long text, and if I have to go back to the top of the text, I can’t. The cursor goes under the name at the top of the page, along with the top part of the text message, and I can’t get to it. Every once in a while, if I put the cursor between the text and the top of the page, the text might come down a sentence at a time, but it usually doesn’t last, and I can’t correct what I need to. Is anyone else having this issue? I’ve read about people’s cursors jumping around, but what happens is the part of the text message I want to go to goes up underneath the name, and the cursor and the rest of the text are at the bottom, and I can’t get to the top.

I’ve also been noticing, as I do talk to text a lot, that when I say period, I will get a period, but it will be a space after my last word. What’s up with that?

We're grateful that you posted here so we can help you figure this out.

There is a way to use your onscreen keyboard as a touchpad, are you utilizing that feature to move the cursor? If not, then we'd like to share the steps on how you can do that since it will most likely give you a more accurate way to move the cursor around when writing long messages:

Turn the onscreen keyboard into a trackpad

You can turn the onscreen keyboard into a trackpad to easily move and place the insertion point.

1. Touch and hold the Space bar with one finger until the keyboard turns light gray.

2. To move the insertion point, slide your finger around the keyboard.

3. To select text, touch and hold the keyboard with a second finger, then adjust the selection by moving the first finger around the keyboard.

With regard to dictation, there is an article that states: "In supported languages, Dictation automatically inserts commas, periods, and question marks as you dictate. To turn off automatic punctuation, go to Settings > General > Keyboard, then turn off Auto-Punctuation." That resource can be found here: Dictate text on iPhone - Apple Support

Thanks for trying, but I can’t really get this to work like it’s supposed to. It’s still hard to get the text that’s at the top that goes under the person‘s name, and half the time my phone freezes when I’m trying to do this. This is so much more difficult than how it used to be when you just held the space bar down, moved the cursor around, and you could go to the top of your text with no problem. I have yet to get this to work. Please change it back to the way it was, this is so frustrating to me.

This is a ridiculous change . Either fix or I will have to go back to IOS 16.
