iPhone 15 PRO MAX - car speakers fine for apps but not for phone calls using Carplay

My new iPhone 15 pro max was working fine with CarPlay but as of the last couple of days, it will not use the auto speakers. All the apps (music, navigation , etc on CarPlay work fine with my car speakers but not the phone calls. Any thoughts?

iPhone 15 Pro Max, iOS 17

Thank you for your response. I have done all that you suggested but the problem persists.

Basically I hear the phone ring through the car speakers, I answer and silence. They can’t hear me

and I cannot hear them. I then switch to speaker on the phone and speak that way.

Im at a loss as to what to do. I believe this started after the last IOS update that took care of the overheating. Before that no problem.

I am having the exact same issue. I got my iPhone 15 a month or so ago. It was working fine w/ my ascent 2023 and then, in last update, I can no longer use my phone, but all apps work just fine. So irritating and COMPLETELY UNSAFE. My husband has a 12s, and it does the same thing for him. This must be an Apple software upgrade issue…anyone else on different iPhones w/ the same problem?

I'm having what I think is the same problem, but I have some additional information which might be helpful in getting it resolved.

My wife and I both have Iphone 15 Pro Max phones (which seems to be a common thread here?). We first noticed the problem on her 2010 Prius Gen 5 (Which is not CarPlay - but maybe a prescursor to it?- gnerally called Toyota Navigation System). She started noticing the problem back in the late October/early November timeframe saying that the system would show the call coming in and hear it ringing through the car speakers. But when she

answered it, it would only go thru the Iphone speakers.

I just got a new Toyota Grand Highlander and when I set up CarPlay on it, the same thing happens. Other apps seem to work fine thru the car speakers.

It almost seems to be an issue with IOS17.x and the Iphone 15 and maybe Bluetooth??? I'm not sure if it's dorectly related to CarPlay unless the Prius navigation system is an early version of CarPlay.

Has anyone opened an official problem ticket? Is this being looked at from Apple?

Hi Rmborchid,

If you haven't done so yet, restart your iPhone. Although simple, this step can help correct some unexpected issues. It's also a good idea to make sure your iPhone is running the latest iOS version, since this can help with overall performance: Update your iPhone or iPad

If an update is available, be sure to create a backup before installing it.

If the issue continues, there are some additional steps that could be helpful here: If you need help with CarPlay

1. Check your connection to your CarPlay stereo:
• If you have a wired connection, try connecting again with a different USB cable to a different USB port if you have one.
• If you have a wireless connection, make sure that Bluetooth is turned on on your iPhone under Settings > Bluetooth. Then go to Settings > Wi-Fi, and make sure that Wi-Fi is also turned on. Tap the CarPlay network, and check that Auto-Join is turned on.
4. If CarPlay doesn't activate automatically, look for the CarPlay logo on your car's display and select it.
5. Restart your iPhone and your car.
6. Make sure that Siri is on.
7. If your iPhone isn't detected by CarPlay, make sure that CarPlay isn't restricted. Go to Settings > Screen Time > Content & Privacy Restrictions. If Content & Privacy Restrictions is on, tap Allowed Apps, and make sure that CarPlay is enabled.
8. Go to Settings > General > CarPlay, tap your car, then tap Forget This Car. Then set up CarPlay again.
9. Make sure that your CarPlay stereo is using the latest firmware from the car manufacturer. Check your car's manual for more information.

Regards.
