My screen works fine when dry. If wet, all sorts of weird things happen and it is unresponsive to touch. If I’m doing an activity (eg run) I can’t start or stop it. There is no way to use one of the side buttons to do this. I’m on my 3rd Apple Watch (Model A2478, Version 10.0.1).

Please know that when Water Lock is enabled, your screen shouldn't respond to touch. This is discussed in article, How to use Water Lock and eject water from your Apple Watch - Apple Support
"When Water Lock is on, your Apple Watch doesn't respond to touch on its display. This prevents accidental input while you're in water. When you turn off Water Lock, your watch ejects any water that remains in its speaker."
If you continue to experience issues after Water Lock has been disabled and water ejected, then you'd need to have it checked out by a technician. You can contact Apple Support for your options at Get Support or review them on your own at Apple Watch Service & Repair - Apple Support.

Solution (for me): Every Apple watch I have ever owned has eventually had problems with the screen not working properly in a wet environment. I finally noticed that the water isn't beading up properly on the screen face, with a fine layer of water of varying thickness across the face, or little micro drops scattered across the face. Some pools are worse than others. For example, an outdoor pool that I swim in, next to a woodsy area, is the absolute worst. I suspect chemical additives, human sweat, and debris from the woods as being the culprit. I bought some liquid screen protector and applied it to my watch. That completely fixed the problem. The screen protector that I used was made by UltraArmor, but I would imagine that any of the liquid screen protectors shown on Amazon will work. Hope it works for you!
Did you read my question? I said it was regardless of whether the lock was on or off! Also, this is the third Apple Watch I’ve had and they’ve all had the same issue. I think Apple never tested the screen properly in wet conditions.

Sorry guys, you’re just not reading my posts. This has happened with all my Apple Watches! If it weren’t for the fact that we have lots of Apple devices, I’d bin the watch!
