local files disappear in the file app

Latley I notice a strange behaviour of the files app.

After I download some files from the Icloud to the Iphone the files keep disappearing. The files app shows the files for some minutes In the "On my IPhone" map, but then the screen changes suddenly to "Map is empty".

When I look up the info of the map it says that there is space used for files in the map. But the map is empty. If I try to download again, it ask me if it should overwrite the existing files with the same name. But still the map shows empty.

I tried it several times, but the problem maintains. I tried downloading in a different folder. This doesn't help. I suspected the Files app not showing files with a certain extension. But that does not seem to be the problem.

Any ideas?

Note: this has nothing to do with "On my IPhone" entry not showing in the menu!

Hello, thanks for your reply.

It's .opus files and .m4a files. Between 50 and 600MB. I try to keep the files on my phone to listen offline to audiobooks. I use VLC and store the files in the local VLC folder.

As described above, the info of the folder says that there are 9 files in the folder taking up 2.1 Gb. But the folder stays empty.

strange, isn't it? Greetings

No, of course not. The files are downloaded from the Icloud drive to the local folder on the Iphone. After a few minutes the files just disappear in the local folder on the Iphone. There is no change whatsoever in the cloud.

But as I said above, the files do not disappear completley. The file Info states that there are files in the folder. But when accessing te folder the app says that the folder is empty. They can't be accessed anymore. The problem is repeatable. It happens every time I download files into the local storage.

Again, I'm not trying to view files anywhere where they shoud not be or where I do not have access via the files app.

Your last comment sugests that you do not believe or lost interest in the subject. Never mind. I was curious if there is anybody experiencing the same mall functuion or has explanation for it.

Cheers,
