Safari 17.0 Favorites Bar

Are you saying you want to remove items from the Favorites Bar? Or that you don't want to see the Favorites Bar? If the latter, go to the "View" menu and select "Hide Favorites Bar".

If you want to delete items from the Favorites Bar, go to the "Bookmarks" Menu, select "Edit Bookmarks". In the next screen, tap on "Favorites" to expend the list. Then, select the items you want to delete, control-click and select "Delete".

Found this simple solution - all it takes is a Control-click (right-click):

"It's not obvious, but you can easily prevent favicons from appearing in the Favorites Bar. Simply right-click anywhere on the bar and uncheck Show Icons in the pop-up menu. If you should miss them at all, you can just as easily turn them back on again using the same menu option, accessed via the same right-click." (MacRumors - Aug 9, 2023)

That is not an unreasonable assumption. If the author posts back and explains what their problem is, people will be able to give them more information. However, as they have not posted back in a number of weeks, that seems unlikely.

They serve very little purpose and there is no option to make them go away.

They may serve no purpose for you but, for some of us, they make finding a Favorite much faster as they are all very easy to distinguish.

You know, in my 37 years of owning Macs and other Apple products, I have never seen anything like that feedback form. (To be fair, the InterWebs wasn't much around for the first decade of them.) They certainly do not publicize it very well.

It should be right there at (i.e. no more than one click away from) Official Apple Support, even if it's buried in the footer.

I don’t know much about Macs, but I don’t know if you can. Additionally, Apple makes changes to their devices that they believe benefit them. If they didn’t think a feature was for the best, they wouldn’t add it. I also noticed your MacBook was out of date. I would recommend updating to MacOS Sonoma.

No. They are talking about the favicons that Safari 17 added to the Favorites Bar. They take up a lot of real estate and (for me) push three of of the Favorites off the right end. I have to click on the ">>" to find them in the drop-down menu of extra favorites.

They serve very little purpose and there is no option to make them go away.

I suppose you could rename the link to have no text and just go by the icon, but that does not help for deeplinks, nor for folders within the Favorites Bar.

The fact that Apple makes changes as they see fit, even when it sometimes seems it's not what people want, is very well known. Some more significant changes that Apple made that people initially thought would be disastrous include removing the SCSI port, removing the floppy drive, and removing optical drives.

I don't know what to say about that. It's been there for a very long time and is the first thing that pops up when I search for "Apple Feedback." I've been using Apple computers since before Macs, but I don't see how that's relevant.

Perhaps you should submit feedback to Apple about that.....

If you've been using Macs for as long as you say, you should know by now that Apple is frequently loathe to add too many options and switches. I get that a lot of people don't agree with that philosophy and so choose other products. But, it certainly shouldn't be a surprise to one with your experience.
