Using Sonoma 14.0 on my MacBook Pro, whenever I click once with the trackpad, and everything disappears, all open windows, all applications. They zoom out to the edges of the screen. I click again, and they reappear. Why? I like it the old way. How do I get it back where I click once on the desktop, and nothing happens? Tom in Texas

Go to System Settings>Desktop & Dock
Scroll down to >Desktop & Stage Manager
This section has an item that says "Click Wallpaper to reveal desktop". Change the setting to your desired default. This should fix your problem.

I have the same problem, why does Apple add these "features" that nobody asked for or wants. I switched this "feature" off. Thank you to the poster that showed how to do this. For gods sake Apple what happened to keeping it simple?

reset your macbook using safe mode Start up your Mac in safe mode - Apple Support (CA)
i had the same problem and spoke with an apple advisor and they told me to follow those steps
