Notifications not working after iOS 17 Update - only 2 contacts for messages

I had non iOS message tones set for 2 contacts. I have upgraded to ios 17 now 1 will not alert with sounds but show up on my Lock Screen and 1 that will not notify with sounds or Lock Screen (unfortunately the one that doesn’t do either is my husband).

I know that iOS 17 doesn’t non non iOS alert tones so I have changed the alert tones for each of the contacts & it still won’t work. I have forced restart with no avail & it is the same on silent too.

Can anyone help please.

For me personally I want everything to open automatically Apple can continue to upgrade but they should still give us a choice

Hi TeaganH,

The following steps address what you're describing specifically, and should provide a solution:

"Allow or silence notifications from specific people during a Focus

  1. Go to Settings  > Focus, then choose a Focus—for example, Do Not Disturb, Personal, Sleep, or Work.
  2. Tap People (or tap Choose People), then do one of the following:
  • Allow specific people: Tap Allow Notifications From, tap the Add People button, then select from your contacts.
    • You can also turn on options to allow calls from certain groups of people and allow repeated calls (two or more calls from the same person within 3 minutes).
  • Silence specific people: Tap Silence Notifications From, tap the Add People button, then select from your contacts.
    • You can also turn on Allow Calls From Silenced People.

Note: Regardless of your Focus settings, you can allow calls from your emergency contacts to come through. See Allow calls from emergency contacts when notifications are silenced, below."

If you have followed the steps correctly and you still have the issue, let us know if you get any specific alerts or error messages when trying, as those may help us determine what might be causing the issue.

We also recommend restarting your device and keeping it updated as those steps assure you have cleared out any minor software issues and are running the most current version.
