Dolby Atmos IOS 17

Dolby Atmos just stopped working on iOS 17 with third party headphones, I’ve been using them for two years, but now Dolby just doesn’t work. What can i do?

Hi DirtyShoesz,

Thanks for using Apple Support Communities. First, we'd recommend making sure that Dolby Atmos hasn't been disabled unintentionally. The following from Listen to Dolby Atmos music on iPhone - Apple Support will help.

"Turn on Dolby Atmos

  1. Go to Settings  > Music > Dolby Atmos.
  2. Choose Automatic or Always On.
    • Automatic: Plays Dolby Atmos whenever iPhone is connected to compatible headphones such as AirPods (3rd generation), AirPods Pro, or AirPods Max, or to speakers or receivers compatible with Dolby Atmos.
    • Always On: Plays Dolby Atmos on any headphones or speakers. The Music app will attempt to play Dolby Atmos tracks on any headphones or speakers connected to iPhone.

Dolby Atmos will play on any headphones, but not all speakers will play Dolby Atmos as intended."

If the same continues, test another pair of headphones. The issue might be isolated to the pair you've been using.

Kind regards.

This just happened to me too (iPhone SE 2000.) Another setting to include is: Settings > Bluetooth.

Under MY DEVICES press the i next to your headphones and make sure “headphone” is selected next to Device Type.

After the iOS 17 update I made sure all the previous Bluetooth and Music settings were still set accurately but still no Atmos playback. Tried this with two other Bluetooth headphones, still no Atmos playback. Thinking of reverting back to an iOS 16 version.
